Welcome
Dear Fellow Democrats,
In the coming months, the filing period for many local offices will open for the November 2009 General Election and the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee will begin the annual process of interviewing and endorsing candidates for a variety of elected positions.
Prior to the opening of the candidate filing period, the Central Committee’s Endorsement & Leadership Development Committee will host its annual candidate seminar for Democrats interested in understanding the DCC’s endorsement process.
The forum will provide an overview of the Democratic Party’s process for endorsing candidates for the approximately 75 available city council, school board, and other local offices in San Mateo County .
The forum will take place on July 9, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at the Officer David Chetcuti Room, 450 Poplar Ave., Millbrae , California .
If you are a candidate and a registered Democrat or know someone who is, please contact our Endorsement & Leadership Development Committee Chair Nick Akers to RSVP for the seminar or to obtain more information.
At the State level, the California Democratic Party is asking all California Democrats to advocate for a State Budget that will preserve our social safety net and promote California ’s economic recovery.
The Party supports and thanks legislative Democrats for standing firm and doing what they can to lessen the harsh cuts proposed by the Governor. In contrast, legislative Republicans continue to defend tax breaks for oil companies and big business rather than keep kids insured and allow the frail elderly to remain in their homes. California ’s budget must support the services we all need and make provisions to pay for them. Californians need a balanced budget solution that includes revenue increases along with cuts.
For local Democrats, the State Party has provided a list of actions we can take and some electronic tools to advocate for those in need.
What can you do?
- Tell lawmakers how the budget cuts will hurt you.
- Send a letter to your local legislators.
- Send a letter to the editor.
- Attend a local event.
- Get talking points about the budget.
- More tools will be added in coming days. Sign up here to receive more updates.
There are many great opportunities for local Democrats to participate in a wide range of important activities in the near future. As Democrats, it is our duty to work for the many causes that will better or communities, our state and our nation.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
"We may win this fight, we may lose this fight, but we will make this fight." – John Burton, California Democratic Party chairman
Democratically yours,
David Burruto
Chair, San Mateo County Democratic Party
